I'm new to computer builds my uncle gave me this computer a while back so ill try to be as thorough to my knowledge.

atm:
specs-

GPU-GEforce 8800 gts
Ram- 2gb
Cpu- intel core 2
PSu- (I believe its somewhere between 300-500)
Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard
at least four or four heatsink fans
over 400gb of hard drive space

if I'm leaving anything out let me know.

I'm wanted to leave everything alone besides the Ram and get 8 gb ram.

I'm trying to be gaming newer games on a budget.

what do I need this to work and or is it worth it ?

You may or may not be able to. The GTX 750 Ti is known to be fussy with old Core 2 Duo motherboards. The lastest BIOS for your motherboard is from 2009 so I doubt there was anything done to increase compatibility if it should have trouble. I'll share a little story regarding that. About a year ago I was putting together a spare parts machine for my sister just to do Facebook. Really old Socket 939 nForce4 motherboard. At first I bought a GTX 750 Ti and it would crash within a few minutes of trying to do anything. Bought an AMD R7 360 and it ran beautifully. Could play old games with no issues. I also had a GTX 650 on hand and it worked fine (one generation back from the Maxwell based GTX 750 Ti).

A Core 2 Duo E6400 can't do...

A Core 2 Duo E6400 can't do much, so the performance difference between the GTX 750 Ti and R7 360 wouldn't matter (its pretty small anyway). Basically, I'd be a bit wary of a GTX 750 Ti on a really old motherboard.
