GTX 750TI overclocking trouble

I finally got my Asus gtx 750 ti to take an overclock successfully with MSI afterburner, all the way up to 1402 (memory at 2900 even) and have it be fairly stable. I opened up subnautica after overclocking last night to watch the core and memory frequencies and I noticed some pretty hard fps drops, during which my core clock dropped to 1071mhz. The drops last 1-5 seconds and seem to occur every several minutes or when loading a bunch of textures (like when coming up to the sea floor all at once). It jumps right back up to 1402 afterwards. I'm at 45-60 fps the rest of the time, with several hundred MB of video memory available at any given time. Any solutions? I'd like to stop having these frame drops but keep the overclock.

Just for added info, this also happens in fallout 4.

Wow, you've got a really good GPU. I can barely get 1450 with a BIOS mod that enabled 110% power target.
If your getting thermal throttling, that's really weird as the GTX 750 ti is one of the coolest GPUs on the market (my FTW card barely hits 50C).

I suggest updating your graphics drivers if you don't have the latest already.

If your still having issues, then your overclock is not stable. First, dump the memory clock to stock and see if you get the same problem. If so, lower the GPU overclock by -5mhz until you don't get any issues. If you aren't having any issues, then slowly up the memory clock until unstable.

Also, 1400mhz is pretty high for a GTX 750 ti. The vast majority of 750 ti's only reach about 1420 before jamming up (mine hits 1430mhz, and can hit 1450mhz with a BIOS overclock).

yea check GPU and see of it passes 90C. my 7970 throttles at 90C (low for a 7970)
also if its not, try putting constant voltage or turn off idle states
or voltage might not be enough, bump voltage slightly (MAX is 1.30v)

Heck I managed to get my brother's GT430 to 850MHz... So for a 750 ti I think 1402MHz is doable, although it may not be entirely stable.

Have you considered that it may be throttling, not because of thermals, but because of the power limit? What program/utility are you using to overclock? I always use MSI Afterburner for Nvidia cards. If you have access to a slider that controls the power limit, raise said power limit by 3% at a time, keeping an eye on thermals as you do this.

I was able to raise voltage by 12mv (can do up to +80), but power limit seems locked at 100%

Don't bother uping the voltage, it's useless. The problem is we can't up the power target, meaning that any extra voltage we add to the card will not be used by the chip because it's being told to only use 100% of the power it's provided.

Thought I should come back and let everyone know, after plenty of intense testing and a driver update, I'm running a stable overclock of 1485mhz without being able to raise the power target. The driver must have been the problem, because it's all good now on the latest one as of July 12th, 2016.

Wow, makes me feel like I hit the jackpot! Haha, but thanks for the suggestions all the same!
