gtx 760 or r9 280 500W PSU

I have to choose between these 2 cards on my 500W PSU which got 2 v12 rails with 20 amps on each one. I know AMD cards are more power hungry and hotter. I got i3 3220 in my rig plan to upgrade to i5 3570 later but for now which card is better pair to avoid incoming problems such as PSU upgrade,PSU fail...

Hello... Well... do you mean a 280x? they are really close in passmark #'s... the Big kicker is the 80 watt power consumption between them... a slight overclock on the GTX760 is possible too... I'm running 1150/1650/1255 on mine right now.

I would go for the 280X, it slight faster plus it uses pretty much the same architecture as the 380x so it will get more reliable driver updates.

Well im familiar with the X version but i don't turst my psu assume it cant handle the full load neither the max load watts i see on the some benchmarks but still they're synthetic.
