Gtx 770 2GB x2 SLI vs Gtx 780 Ti for 4k?

I built a machine last month with the intention of going SLI and picking up a 4k TP panel, either the Samsung or the Asus Swift Rog that's yet to launch.

This is the card I have now:

I wanted to run two of them at 4k, I don't do anything super hardcore, majority of it is MMOs, lots of Warcraft. Occasional shooter. I don't expect Titan SLI performance but I want it to work above medium meager settings. I realize my card only has 2GB Vram and I'm not experienced enough in the specifics to know how a pair of them would effect that high of a resolution which is why I am here.

I have a friend who will buy my new card for a small loss to me if I need to get a bigger card. I was looking at this as a single card alternative:

Or, if you have some other advice I welcome it.

I realize the best long term would likely be a pair of regular 780s but I don't have the funds for that at the moment.

Monitor's I'm shooting for is either the Samsung UD590 or the Asus PG278Q.

You will need two 290Xs as they can handle all the VRAM that will be used and will be much less expensive. Also, why 4K? you can get great quality out of some dell ultrasharps. There will be second to no difference unless you sit 5 inches away from your screen. Also, it is extremely expensive, wait for 4K to become cheaper and then do this stuff.

I wanted to try the 4k for the resolution, they just look vastly superior in picture to the ToC 27" Samsung I use now.

I don't know if my motherboard supports crossfire.

Well they look like that. For the money you'll be paying, just get 2 new 27 inch monitors! No reason for 4K right now when not even the HUMAN EYE can't notice a difference. After 2K resolutions, you just start wasting money. Stick with a 27 inch monitor. You'll be glad you did.

Thanks for the advice but I'd still like a little more. I've been running through youtube videos all day with a work bonus burning a hole in my pocket, I need moar powaaa.

By powaaa I mean a nice crisp image at mega resolution.

I'll check out the monitor, why is it better then say the 27" 1ms Samsung I have now?

I haven't had an AMD based GPU since a Radeon 32MB PCI, and I don't plan on starting back now.

If you are only using medium settings, without AA, 2GB is even enough at 4K resolutions. It will, however, choke if you are turning up AA, and there may be a few situations you will have to use lower texture settings (which medium does for you in most cases).

That said, I'm not sure what the best solution for a 4K monitor would be. I doubt I'd invest in 2Gb cards for 4K.

That's nonsense. The human eye can obviously notice the difference. Try retina displays on a Mac sometime. It's like you went from 20/80 vision to perfect 20/20. The text just becomes that much clearer. I just bought a Samsung 4k 28" monitor for $550. It's time to move past 1080p, a resolution from about a decade ago.
