Long story short, I'm building a new rig and I'm definitely getting a GTX 770. The games I play do not like Radeon, so I'm avoiding the 280x like the plague.

I have two choices: Gigabyte version which has 3 fans, or the Asus version which only has 2. My question is, will the one with 3 fans run cooler or does it really make no difference? I would prefer to buy the Asus one (I trust the brand more), but for reasons I can not be bothered explaining I am building a small ITX rig this time around so I'm wanting to get which ever card runs coolest.

Fans really doesn't matter that much, even 2 fans can provide efficient cooling, instead of gigabyte I would suggest you to get EVGA 770GTX with ACX cooler. Among your choice I would suggest Asus instead of Gigabyte because asus has super alloy components

The ASUS cooler typically performs better. Also, the fins on the ASUS are arranged to direct the air out of the back, while the Gigabyte version directs the air back into the case. I have the ASUS GTX 670 (almost the same card). It runs really cool and quiet. I can hold the temps down under 65 C with the fan at only 50 to 60 percent with a 1150 MHz core clock. I never find it distracting while gaming.
