I've been doing quite a bit of research to find which is the better card and have found that the r9 280x seems to be the better card against a GTX 770 2g SC, but what about the GTX 4g SC? they are only $10 difference in price. I would be running a single monitor, potentially 2, at 1080p. Here are the exact cards I'm looking at

for games like Skyrim and bf which will run the best?

$400 is simply too much for a GTX770 or R9 280X for that matter. Since for that price you should be getting R9 290 if they just happen to be in stock.
Seems that the bitcoin miners are really hitting the high end graphics cards at the moment. And anything in stock at least in the R9 280X 290(X) front is about $100 more than it should.

If you are only running a single 1080p screen a 2GB 770 works fine. If you plan on doing SLI with the 770's over 3 screens for example, then the higher amount of VRAM might be warranted, but overall then you might want to look at a GTX 780 anyway.
