I had a MSI 770. It could get around a 100mhz overclock on the core and 500mhz on the mem. Also, the Twin Frozr cooler is the best cooler in the industry. I had a 3 fan gigabyte card that couldn't even keep up. Even with that overclock, my MSI card still never broke 70C at 60% fan speed. It's very quiet too. I never use any other brand anymore.

Yeah I had my eye more o the MSI 770 as it also comes with the program to overclock so this would be useful to me as I would be new to overcloking gpu's, but then other people recommend the ASUS 770 so I am really unsure, Recently the gtx 780 has caught my eye also which would allow my rig to me more future proof for newer games coming out but nearly £400 for a gpu is a lot of money to be honest but would it be worth the extra bit of money to get a 780 in the long run or to just wait for the prices of the 770 to come down and sli ?

Some people will say MSI some Asus some EVGA some Gigabyte some something else! Main thing is get it from a respectable manufacturer with good warranty. I personally would choose between the 3 first manufacturers I listed and purchase based on price.

I've got a 780 that overclocks to 175mhz. It's also a MSI Twin FRozr. I really wouldn't go with anything else anymore. I've never had an issue.

There isn't much price difference between the MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte 770's but the RRP for the ASUS is over £400 does this matter or do they all perform the same ?

@pyr0_m4n - what resolution do you play on while using the 780 ? as I am only going to be playing games on a 221inch 1920x1080p monitor so would a 2gb 770 be enough and future proof ?

Performance difference is going to be in the range of 1-3fps between the cards based on difference in core clocks. Most of the slower clocked cards will easily get the same clocks as the OC cards with a simple user overclock.

Ah so theres not much difference in fps then to be honest, I like the Asus, Gigabyte and the MSI but choosing between the three is difficult lol. But I'm debating whether to save and just get the 780 but it doesn't seem worth the extra £100 when if needed I could just sli the 770 in the future, would you recommend me to do this or just get the 780 ?

I would advise to SLI two 780s so that way you'll have maximum performance until the 790 arrives. SLI is by most supported by most games and it gives you max performance

Considering my single 780 will easily break 100 fps on ultra 1080p, SLI is a waste of time unless OP has a 120hz TV to make use of it.

I would love to sli two 780's but I'm on a budget atm so looks like I'm gonna have to go with the 770 and then maybe upgrade in the future.

For single monitor gaming at 1080P the GTX770 and R( 280X is the sweat spot at the moment and like you say you can always go SLI or upgrade to something new in the future. We always have to pay premium for the very high end cards, 780 and 290's, over the level below and there for making them not as good a purchase based on performance for the price.

So what would be better to do as like I say I'm on a budget so would it be better for me to just save for a single 780 or get a 770 now and then sli or upgrade in the future if needed ? Because I'm really unsure what to do, but all of your inputs and advise have been really helpful so far so thank you all again, as I want as much information and advise as possible before I make a decision.

I always go for single cards. SLI has huge power behind it, but in the summer, it can get really hot. And even though most games support SLI, some bug out when you use it. For instance, playing Far Cry 3 multiplayer with SLI will cause the game to crash after every match.

Look, I'm only 14. That probably means that you are going to drop all advice from my part. But, you need to make the choice between one 780, or two 770s

There is pretty much nothing out there that you can not play at very acceptable settings with a single GTX770 at 1080P at the moment. Of course you can opt for the 780 which will last longer until you need to reduce settings but it is basically user defined what is acceptable frame rate, some say 60 others say 30 so a really a massive difference and by that time there will be new and better GPU's on the market.
