Hi folks,
so I am rocking GTX 770 (GB Windforce 3X edition) coupled with i5 3570 (non K).
I am an RPG player, so for me this card was (is?) just fine, until DA3 and W3 happened, that is.
Now I think that GTX 970 or 980 would not be that much of an upgrade from this card (or would it?). I may be better to hold out 'till Pascal rolls out (they should roll out Big Pascal this time, Q2(?) 2016). I guess it would be nice to build a new rig around Skylake and Pascal.
On the other hand, my CPU is still pretty good and instead of building new Skylake/Pascal rig next year, if GTX 980 would be sufficient upgrade for decent 1080p gaming, I might hold out for yet another two years on this rig.
That's the main question I have.
Now, the miscellanea questions:
How do you GTX 770 (or GTX 680 or GTX 960) guys deal with DA3, W3 etc.?
Digital Foundry article (google "What does it take to run The Witcher 3 at 1080p60?") suggests for GTX 960 (OC...so nearing GTX 770 I guess)
1) "console settings" to get more or less stable 60 fps with some drops into 50s
2) 30 fps lock (like Half-rate Adaptive V-sync) and crank the settings to Ultra...
this is the old 60vs30 fps thing... what is your preference - high fps rate with lower settings or lower fps rate with higher settings?
What it does not suggest, probably unsuprisingly, but hey...
3) switch to 900p or 720p and crank the settings higher while keeping 60 fps
Actually, I am asking because with this card I did not have to deal with things like these, which is a good thing I guess, as the games push the limits up again, so we buy new stuff
