Hi all,

At the beginning quick answer for questions like "but why?" I bought this PC from my company for +- 10$ just to play with. A friend of mine had unsued ASUS GTX770, so i borowed it and decided to try to make a working machine. Because why not :)??

My PC: Lenovo M93p SFF, i5 4570, 8gb RAM https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sy...93p_SFF_Pro/ThinkCentre_M93p_SFF_Pro_Spec.PDF
My GPU: Asus GTX 770 https://www.asus.com/us/SupportOnly/GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5/HelpDesk_Knowledge/
My GPUs: original, modecom MC S350, Chieftec BPS-550C

Making long story short: I'm connecting it, clicking power on, fans are moving for 0,5 sec and nothing more. No power.

GPU is for sure ok, i tested it on another PC.
My PC is ok, without this GPU it is working fine.
I tested also some old NVidia Quadro gpu and it was working fine with this PC.
I tested 3 PSUs (list above), all the same.
BIOS to default setup+removing BIOS battery didn't help.

What I observed/did:
-GPU in PCI port but without connected additional 14 power pins. PC is starting, but we see: Not enaugh power, connect (...)
-I checked all options in BIOS, including "use only integrated GPU/ only external gpu etc.
-I connected it to both PCI ports on MB
-I bought GPU reiser (used for crypto mining). powered by 6 pins, connected via USB 3.0 to PCI 1 port. With connected power to 14 pns- the same. no power. But without this, powered only from reiser- PC is starting, but in Windows GPU is simply not detected.
-I tried to power GPU with normal pins from PSU, but also by connection with those for HDD.

Any idea why it is not working? I don't belive there is some white/black list of HW listed in Lenovo BIOS, that i can(cannot) install...

Solution
That PSU could never provide 550w, not even when it was new. Guaranteed. Chieftec DOES have a couple of pretty decent units through the years, but that certainly isn't one of them.

Just because something was "previously working fine" doesn't mean it is now. That's called "failure" which happens to everything eventually. But, ok.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

How old is the PSU in the build? You're advised to invest in a reliably built, 650W unit to power a system with a GTX770 in it. Another note, the connector on the motherboard is proprietary, how are you working with aftermarket off the shelf PSU's? Are you using a rewired harness?

Not one of those power supplies is capable enough, even new, of supporting that graphics card adequately, even when the graphics card also was new.

Graphics cards require more power as they age than they did when they were new, and power supplies LOSE capacity as they age, along with other various forms of degradation. Now, while it's quite possible there is a problem with your motherboard itself, the problem is far more likely one of those very old, very poor quality, less than suitable capacity power supplies.

Do any of those power supplies even HAVE the necessary auxiliary power connectors that card requires? Because it looks like the only one of those that even COULD be remotely considered suitable, which is the Chieftec, has only a single 8 pin connector while your card most likely requires both a six and eight pin auxiliary power connection.

Also, if you tried powering that card using connectors that weren't intended for use with a graphics card, on a cheap power supply, you may have created new or worse problems as well.

I'd check to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your motherboard and find a real power supply. Because none of the ones you have are suitable for use with a card that can pull ~350w by itself.

What are the hardware specifications for the system it DOES work in, including the exact model of that power supply?

Hi Guys, thank You both for the reply.

You generally is suggesting that PSu is the problem. I have 2 doubts regarding this:
-The strongest PSU i have, Chieftec, has 550W. GPUs TDP is 230 W and suggested PSU -550 W (in its specs). My PC is consuming normally <<200W. is it possible that even in such setup is noteven starting? I understand, new games won't be handled, but even windows with setup to use integrated graphic card only in bios?
-This power supply was working previously in PC with this GPU and was working fine. It has to be something with.... MoBo?
-Pins,for two weaker PSUs i used connectors- true, but this Chieftec has 6+8pins to supply with power GPUs
-BIOS updated from Lenovo page (as well as all drivers via Lenovo soft for updates)

That PSU could never provide 550w, not even when it was new. Guaranteed. Chieftec DOES have a couple of pretty decent units through the years, but that certainly isn't one of them.
