I've waited quite awhile now to upgrade from my two 7850's. At this point I'm between two cards, due to my $300-350 budget for this card. I'm playing BF4 ultra at 60fps 1080p but I want to be ready for Blackflag and other games that may not run as smooth on my AMD setup right now.

My question is: Do I go for the 770 or 280X? For 30 bucks more I can grab MSI's 770. Any thoughts? I'd love to go AMD but I want the better card for the money. Thanks guys!

Personally i would go for the AMD R9 280X (XFX Edition). That card is sexy looking and has 3gb over the 2gb 770. The two run pretty close to each other on BF4 Ultra settings and there is a minimal difference. So save yourself the extra $30 to go buy some mc. donalds because these 2 cards have a minimal performance difference.

The 770 will be slightly faster in most cases, but in BF4, the 280X could get a big performance boost when Mantle is implemented into BF4 this December. Mantle is basically a way to bypass DirectX for more optimized graphics processing. Right now only AMD cards support Mantle, so in games that utilize Mantle, AMD cards will have an advantage. Although nobody knows how big of an advantage, we'll have to wait until BF4 is running Mantle.

This card looks more sleek and nicer http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150678&Tpk=280x%20XFX

Also if you think about it r9 280x already runs better than the 770 just wait until they implement mantle into bf4, the card will run even better!!!

Yes but the sapphire Toxic version comes with a default core speed of 1,100MHz and Memory at 6,400MHz. It's one stupid fast card.

True, But if you think about it you can overclock the xfx to meet those clocks

Awesome thanks guys for the responses. I read through everyone and it seems the general decision would be to pick up the 280x.

One poster asked if I would be recording gameplay and that is a definite possibility in the future as well if that will make any difference.

Well i'm glad that you have found a answer to your question, enjoy the R9 280X

Definitely thanks alot. I'm a Vet on these forums and I can't seem to find the Solution link so I can choose an answer as correct. Any idea why that may be? Or am I just missing it? Haven't been on the site in quite awhile.

nope, no idea

Well thanks to you for all of your help and the other posters for their opinions! I'm happy to feel confident buying AMD again. The 7850's did well for me and I want to support AMD when I can.
