Hi guys

I've been looking around for a while to replace my 560ti and I've come to the conclusion that these two fit in my price range pretty well, I play on a single monitor at 1080p with an 8350, also my motherboard also only supports crossfire and not sli, if this helps at all.
Thanks!!

last night battlefield 4 made some updates for Mantle. Any day now the beta drivers will be available. I recomend waiting a few days, it could be worth it, until we get some test results. It is said that 290 CF got 60 % performance increase. If and until NVidia finds a way to benefit from Mantle, AMD will have a much greater performance / price report so you should take that into consideration. The only downsides for 280x are a bit more temperature and a little higher power consumption.
Since your MB supports CF but not SLI, have a little patience for real life tests on Mantle, since we're just a few days away from gaming improvements.

I've in the uk if that helps at all? And I'll probably be buying from either scan or amazon
Here's the scan prices
770 - http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/gpu-nvidia/geforce-gtx-770-(1536-cores)
R9 280x - http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/gpu-amd/radeon-r9-280x-pci-e-(2048-streams)
If you could find find them cheaper then that would helpful :)
I'm looking at the MSI 280x and the Gainward 770 (non phantom)

Mantle has been one of the main reasons that I've been considering to buy the 280x and so far it seems to be a great API, just hope the public get he same results!

As I said, last night Battlefield 4 required an 1.2 GB update, the game has Mantle integrated.... but... we need to wait a few more days for new Beta drivers that take full advantage of it. And the the benchmarks and im sure that more games will prove some differences.

Still waiting a little bit is valuable, just in case Mantle will suck and give a lot of crashes, then you will get the 770 smiling, if it works well 280x will do the trick.

Would the 280x perform just as well as the 770 in other games such as Crysis 3, Bioshock, Civ 5 and others?

There should be some improvement;of course the greater improvement would be for games whose producers worked with AMD, but the other games that use opengl, directx will also increase fps. Unfortunatlly AMD only bragged with their biggest project, with the highest fps increase. we will find out soon the impact in other games

Not all games will have mantle though? But at the minute is there much of a difference?

Definitely you will have a better performance in the R9 280x, you will not regret purchasing it. Just wait until there is updates regarding Mantle. I would suggest R9 280x Toxic among all other 280s it's the best, you can take a look at its price at amazon may be --> http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-Toxic-1100MHz-Express-Graphics/dp/B00FOQZZ9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391166000&sr=8-1&keywords=r9+280x+toxic

You cannot expect a card will outperform its counterpart in all the games, in few games 780 may have few differences in FPS but it doesn't really mean that it is very good in few games.

The only problem with the toxic is that it's an extra £50 over the MSI which I'm not in the position to pay for

I personally like Gigabyte Windforce. Pretty balanced and has good price in my country

Well, you can go with MSI then, its twin frozr cooling tech also is pretty good, but you will not gt the same performance like toxic.. Good luck !

It's only an extra £13 hmmm

Do you know when the drivers will be released?

The 280x wont be available until the 28th of February in the uk, annoyingly -.-
