I'm thinking about buying a Sapphire 3gb Dual X R9 280x. I was wondering if it's better to spend the extra money and go with the 770 or get the 280x?

This is my PSU http://www.rosewill.com/products/390/productDetail.htm it's pretty old, just want to make sure it will be able to handle a 280x/770.

I'm leaning towards a 280x as it's cheaper and seems to be about the same. I'm just worried about drivers with AMD products. Are the drivers any better? I haven't owned a AMD product since having two 5770 and the drivers were terrible.

I have a GTX 570 now and just want to upgrade it for The Witcher 3 and Battlefront. I'm looking for a more future proof card. I won't buy another for a few years.

Solution
Better go for GTX 970 4GB VRAM

I'm running Windows 8.1.

I also should have mentioned that i want to keep it cheap. Under 200$ haha

Even the cheapest R9 280X cost almost $250. Are you thinking of the R9 280?

A glance at Newegg shows most GTX 770's and R9 280X's around $300 still. I think the R9 280X is fine from a performance standpoint for what you want to do, at least at 1080p, but you aren't going to find one for less than $200. I think GTX 770's were still around $200 even on Ebay last I checked.

Is that the best model or is that just the one that is under 200?

I'm looking to get one used off Ebay. So if there is a better model that is over 200$ it might be on ebay for cheaper.

Depends on your definition of "best"?

Best performance/price ratio and best future proof card for said price ratio.

I upgrade every few years with a cheaper card. I don't care about playing my games in 4k @ 9000fps on ultra.

I just want to be able to play on low - high and get 60FPS in 1080p. I usually turn down my graphic's in first person shooters and other multi player games to help lower input lag. I usually only turn them up in single player games.

I was indeed trying to stay under 200$

I found the R9 280x TWIN FROZR on ebay for about 180$ so might buy that if it's the best card for my price range.

The cheapest gtx 770 i could find on ebay was 205$ buy it now, so for 2.23% i don't really see spending 25$ more for that and getting 1gb less vram.

I'm gonna buy the R9 280x TWIN FROZR for 180$, just kind of worried about the reviews on newegg for that card.

If you dont have the $$ for a GTX 970, then dont spend it at all. If you get a r9 or GTX 7 series card, you will end up regretting it in probably 6 months - a year. save up and get your moneys worth for the next few years by shelling out $340 for a GTX 970. Think FUTURE if you want to "future proof", not half a year ahead proof, ya know?

GTX 660 is 15% faster than GTX 570 . You messed up GTX 570 and GTX 580
