Hey,
I will have about £800-900 in march and i want to boost the performance of my PC, as i have recently got another monitor and when i game and watch streams at the same time, i get fps dips into the 40's.

I am getting a hyper 212 evo so i can overclock my cpu to around 4.5ghz (hopefully) and i want to SLI my gtx 770. My 2gb EVGA GTX 770 sc is £300 and i can get another for the same price, but the 4gb ASUS GTX 970 STRIX is the same and i get free games.

Is it worth the extra money, to sell my gtx 770 and get 2x 4gb ASUS GTX 970 STRIX if i am just gaming on 1 1920x1080 monitor? I mostly only play WoW, Battlefield and big AAA titles that catch my eye. I have also heard that the Sli performance increase is a lot less on the 970 than the 770 and the fps is equal in some cases

Thanks

If I were you, I would sell your 770 and get 1 970. I play on 1440p with 970 sli, because I like 120 fps in most games. 970 would be plenty at 1080p, and it's cooler and more powerfully and overclock likes a beast. I used to run 770. I sold mine while they are still valuable, which is what I'd recommend to you if you want to upgrade. Although 770 2gb is still very nice card for 1080p and necessity of upgrade at all is debatable.

It's crazy to do SLI right now on a 2gb video card. You'll still have 2gb after you pair the two 770. The 970 is way better. Some games already ask 3 or 4gb vram to run ultra textures. My advice would be to get ONE 970 and see how it performs to your needs. If it's not enough, SLI it. What's your CPU btw? 4770k?

Ps.: though not released yet, 970 will support DX12 (maybe fully support it, who knows, they haven't released all the info on DX yet). 770 will get you stuck on DX11. DX12 gives lower lvl API control, which means cards supporting this latest DX will perform better in the future.

Within the next 10 days I'll be doing the same btw, getting a 970 and then selling a 2gb 770.

I have a 3570k.
Im not looking for super high fps, just so it never dips below 60 at the absolute max graphics

£300 for a 2gb 770!?!?! hell no! i got my 970 for £275! and the 970 blows away the 770! dont splash out on 2 970s if you dont have to though, the drops into the 40s is a cpu issue not a gpu one, i would spend that money on a 970 a good z97 motherboard with an i7 4790k. dont waste money on another 770.

It looks like a pretty nice difference, but it depends on if you're really willing to spend that much. Look here.

It will surely give you a pretty nice jump from a 770 SLI, and it is newer and uses less power, but then again, the games you're playing right now won't really need that much GPU power.

Anyhow, again, the 970 is pretty much a lot better, but you'll spend more money, a lot more. Your decision. Hope I was able to help.

1 970 + a better multitasking cpu (4790k)

and i dont know who told you that sli 770s are better or equal to sli 970s, thats complete BS and that person was probably on drugs at the time. ovcourse it all depends on the cpu.
