Hey,

I cant make up my mind whether or not its worth it to upgrade to a 1060 from my 770. Searching the web (gpuboss, videocardbenchmark.net passmark results) are giving me mixed information. I was wondering if any of the hardware guru's around here could chime in and help me make up my mind.

Cheers,

The GTX 770 has 1536 CUDA cores and runs at a base clock of 1046MHz. The GTX 1060 has 1280 CUDA cores and runs at a base clock of 1506MHz.

I'm aware that I excluded the boost clock. That's because only the base clock is actually guaranteed... Whether you're able to achieve the advertised boost clock depends on thermal conditions as well as power delivery conditions. Not all cards reach their advertised boost clock.

Also, comparing these cards based on the amount of CUDA cores is unfair because they're from two different generations and are built on two drastically different architectures. Basically, CUDA cores have evolved a lot since the GTX 770, and the lesser amount of them on the GTX 1060 doesn't really slow it down, especially considering that it runs at a much higher clock speed.

Please note that all of the above specs are for the reference models. Yes, I'm aware that Nvidia is now calling reference the Founders Editions, but I really don't care... It's really just a marketing scheme.

Given all of this information from geforce.com, I recommend the GTX 1060.
