hi all ,
This is my first post and ya i don't have much knowledge about graphics card . I wanna upgrade my gpu and i have decided to go with gtx 970 or gtx 770 . well , the v-ram issue of gtx 970 has really forced me to think twice before getting this card . on the other side gtx 770 is a bit older and may not be future proof compare to gtx 970 . so , i wanna know , will i be able to play games like far cry 4,bf4 and the upcoming game the division on ultra with gtx 770 . It almost took me 2 months to save for gtx 970 and i dont wanna be disappointed later with gtx 970 . Please advice..

Solution
just buy the 970,the vram issue has been blown out of all proportion.
the 970 pretty much eats the 770 for breakfast, the 770 would be a foolish buy imo.
If youve really been put off the 970 that much then look at the amd r9 290/290x as a replacement.

Solution
gtx970 is considerably faster than the gtx770. if you can get the 770 for $240 or less then it could be an option, but i dont think you will.

the vram issue is somewhat of a crock. many of us have kepler 780/titan/780tis with 3gb of ram and we dont cross the 3gb barrier. if a 970 has vram issues caused by passing 3gb.... 3.5gbs... then so will every single card lower tier then it.

if you somehow plan to run sli/cfx and want 4k, then i would wait for gm210/bermuda.

Well i am not planning for sli , all i wanted a decent single card

The GTX 770 has only 2GB of VRAM. The GTX 960 is almost as fast.
The GTX 970 has 3.5 GB of full speed VRAM and amuch more powerful GPU. You won't exceed 3.5 GB of VRAM in normal use.
The best alternative to the GTX 970 is the Radeon R9 290. It has 4 GB of VRAM, it is only a little slower than the GTX 970 and is cheaper. It does use a lot more power, but if you have a decent 600W or higher power supply this won't be a problem.
I would recommend the GTX 970.

The 770 comes in 2 & 4gb versions but I have read a couple of articles which say the 4gb version can only utilise about 2.5gb due to memory bandwidth limitation. I admit this is technically beyond my understanding but it does mean the 970 is always faster and even when compared to the 4gb 770 it can utilise more vram.

^ happy enough here - ultra ,60fps vsynced ,65-70% GPU usage,62c max temp s

I bought the card for efficiency in a cramped htpc build - it does exactly what I want it to.
All I will say is whenever a problem crops up regarding performance 99.99% of the time the card in question is an evga model - make of that what you will.

if they were then they were either expecting too much, playing at far too high settings for their rig, or playing horribly optimized games from crap devs. or all the above. this is common with "new to pc gaming" users.

Asus generally make very good quality cards with an effective quiet cooler. The factory over-clocks are typically a bit lower than other brands, but you can over clock yourself if you like.
Gigabyte use coolers with more powerful fans and smaller heat sinks than Asus. These are effective, but make a bit more noise. Factory over clocks are good and the cards are cheap.
MSI is typically pretty good, but you see a number of people complaining of coil whine.
EVGA is very popular, but again you see a few issues reported.
Zotac isn't bad either.

all 5 of the major board partner cards are very good. the msi twin frozr 970 is probably the best all around though. they are all thermally limited by their fan design and you will run into a temp wall long before you are reaching vcore limits. if you have the room for the long windforce card and dont mind a little extra noise and want the best possible cooling for your overclock, its the best choice. if you want a very short card and dont mind taking a 100mhz hit to your overclock, the acx 2.0 card is the best. the twin frozr is a great balance between everything. the dc2 is a good card, im not really sure how to place it against the others, its definitely reliable, but it would be my last choice out of all of them, i dont like their choice in voltage controllers, personal preference. love asus mobos though. i prefere evga, sapphire, or msi for video cards.
