I know there are several treads on this but I have found nothing to convince me into buying one over the other. I will be gaming on a 1080 gaming monitor playing BF4 and COD Ghosts. Price is not an issue because they are the same. I don't run duel screens or take in game video. I am leaning more towards the GTX 770 2GB but feel free to prove me wrong. I know the R9 280X gives you an extra gigabyte of vram but does that extra gigabyte even matter at 1080p? Also which one is better raw performance wise and which one will be more future proof?

For BF4 the 280x is better as BF4 is an AMD optimized game. The 280x will last longer because of than 1 GB of VRAM but the 770 comes with AC4 Batman Origins and Splinter Cell Blacklist. So it basically comes down to green team or red team because the performance is almost identical, but the 280x will last longer because of that VRAM.

Bias thoughts aside due you think mantle is going to take off or just be supported in a game here and there.

Amd will be adding there "Never Settle"bundles again I am pretty sure. R9 280x has the edge in most games.

Both cards play very well at 1080p, so consider price.

I think the extra GB of VRAM will be useful in the next generation (BF4 apparently already uses 2+GB at the highest settings, but I'm an amateur so maybe do some research yourself here). On all other levels, the performance difference between the two cards seems pretty minimal, some games run marginally better on the 770, others on the 280X. It's mostly dependent on what specific video card you pick. Other things to consider:

-NVidia has some extra features, like Physx, Shadowplay and the upcoming G-sync. Take a look at these and see if anything interests you.
-AMD has upcoming Mantle support which should make some games run better. Take a look at this as well.
-At some retailers, the 770 comes with 3 free games; Assassin's Creed 4, Splinter Cell Blacklist and Batman Arkham Origins.
-NVidia's SLI (using two GPU's together) currently works better than AMD's Crossfire.

Personally, I'm going for the 280X since it's 30 euros cheaper for me, I want the extra VRAM, and I don't care about NVidia's extras, but that might be different for you.
