Hey guys, Ive been stuck between a 770 and a r8 280x. I currently have a r9 270x but I realized it doesn't perform as well as i hoped it to.
I can get a 280x 3GB for $400CAD or a 770 2GB for $325
I would choose the GTX 770 right away but i dont know if i should not because of the Mantle api that the 280x has going for it. Ive already decided i won't get a 7970 because its the same price.
So is it worth it to save more money or will Mantle be really worth it. I play BF4, Arma, and many other games.

if i were you, i would wait for the price on the r9 280x to drop back the 300 mark where it was earlier when it first came out. The reason that the prices have gone up is due to the fact that people want to mine for bitcoins. (idiotic but whatever) But hopefully after the holidays, you will be able to get one for 320-340. Being that, if the 280x stays at 380+, go the the 770. It's a much better deal even if mantle puts a 20% increase the 770 at 325 it will beat the 280x at 380+ at price vs. performance.

They are equal in performance minus 4-5 fps in some games either way. But the price is not equal at all. Base your decision on price as of right now. Or for shadow play and v sync support. Amd has various little add-ons on their chips as does nvidia, but in basic down to earth fps performance they are pretty much the same.

Alright thanks guys, ill try and wait it out and see if the 280x goes down cause Im intrigued by mantle, but 770 seems like a good option.

i can personally vouche for the 280x as i have it, if you're playing on a 1080p monitor, you can play any game maxed out. Mantle looks promising but there's no real world performance to prove anything. I'm excited for it too! Let me know what you decide to get. If you end up with a 770, we can compare when mantle gets out!!
