So yes, to cramp it up in a single sentence, should I choose the GTX 770 over the 7970?

(Any information on Radeon's 8000 series release date, no?)

Thanks.

8000 series has been rumored to be coming out late this year or early next year. They should be a half-step or so above the Nvidia 700 series. If that's worth the wait for you then by all means...

The 770 and 7970 are very close to tied in game performance so go with the brand/features you like best. Better 3D, drivers, frame metering, physx, etc. go with Nvidia. More monitors per card, better compute, free games etc. go with AMD.

The 8000 series will be OEM, the 9000 series with the 9970 is predicted to come out in q3 or q4 of 2013. In terms of 7970 vs 770, it's really personal preference of brand if you're gaming. If you're doing intensive computations, the 7970 is far superior.

Right... So you're telling me they're equal? If so, then why are people saying that the GTX 680 is equal to 7970... But meanwhile the GTX 770 is a better 680? Wouldn't that mean that the 7970 would be running slower? Grr, I don't know what to purchase...

GTX 770, it tops the 7970 in most games, there are a lot of benchmarks showing its power Vs the 7970, google it, not to mention that a 780 owns it without a glimps.

In terms of performance, the GTX 770 would be a better choice. And if you want, I would get the GTX 780. Its the best price to performance single card GPU on the market, also while staying cooler and quieter.

The 770 is supposed to be a ramped up 680, and right now the 7970 and 680 go hand in hand with eachother. This means that the 770 will be stronger than the 7970, and even better than the 7970 Ghz edition, after the articles ive been reading.

Also about the next AMD series, its actually going to be the 9000 series since there are already 8000 series for laptops.

At the end of the day, are you going to buy a nVidia card that's equal to an AMD card if you're an AMD fan? Probably not, in the end of the day, you can't go wrong with either choice. I myself prefer AMD, but the 770 is a fine card and it will serve you well.

Uh, what? Seriously? You're just putting up claims without any information to back it up. It's these posts I usually don't consider trustworthy.

You see, I don't have all of the parts yet, so I'm currently running a dual core cpu, E6500 to be specific. I decided to wait up on Haswell to see how it performs so I still can't say for sure what my parts are. Although I have purchased some components. (cooler, ssd, hdd, case, ram). I play on 1920x1080 but I'm a general gamer, I don't have preferences on games. It can vary from playing a lousy old game with ''ancient'' graphics to a high resolution, power-hungry game with state-of-art technology.

But here are some games I will definitely try: Metro: Last Light, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, Battlefield 3 (and 4 when it is released), BioShock Infinite, Skryrim, Tomb Raider, Assassin's creed, Call of Duty, Grid 2, etc.

Since I don't live in the US, there's an 70-80 euro difference between the 7970 and the 770, with the 7970 being the cheapest. Should I go with that one since it's considerably cheaper?

Yeah, if they were equal you could pick the 770, but 70 to 80 euros is a significant amount. Go with the 7970 and save the 70 or 80 euros for a future upgrade.

Lol, I just can't stop laughing. Everyone knows that the majority if not all of AMD runs hotter, sometimes louder (in this case it is) , and require more power consumption. It's common sense.

GO to guru3d.com and research the cards you are curious about. They painstakingly test and review the cards. You will get all your video card questions answered over there with minimal research! BTW NVIDIA ROCKS gtx 770 is all you need anything else is just overkill IMHO. lIKE PUTTING A VIPER ENGINE IN A VW, yeah its fast but everybody is laughing at you behind your back for wasting your money.
