The HD7970 CF will be more powerful where CF is supported. Single card has 70% of the performance of the 780 http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_780_Lightning/26.html

stick with a single gpu, even if your running a single 1440/1600p monior, the 780 is still going to be more than enough. if your running or never plan on going higher than 1080p, look for something less than a 780

really ? then ask in november there maybe crazy BF deals (assuming you live in the us) and just as a general unless your buying top end (though I guess 7970 are pretty top end) its better to buy a signal card. Also by November not only should there be new cards out you will have a better gauge on how mature the new xfire drivers are concerning the runt frame issue.
