GTX 780 throttle when OC?

I just got a new rig with an Asus GTX 780 DirectCU ii and it works great at stock speeds and it even boosts fine when running Heaven benchmark. But when I OC, at some point during the benchmarks the fps starts to drop significantly (around 25%). I'm thinking my card is throttling because it reaches the temp target at 80 degrees but when I check the Afterburner monitor the clocks never dropped. I do see that the temperature dropped a little after I started to notice a drop in fps so it seems to be throttling. I'm not sure what's happening. And the weird thing is that when I try to run the benchmark again after I let the card cool down the fps stay low and I have to restart the computer to get the increased fps values I got the first time I ran Heaven.

Ok I think I fixed it by increasing the limit to 94 deg. The card still says around 79/80 in Heaven. I still find it weird that the card throttles that much to stay under the limit and when I increase it the card still stays close 79 without throttling

Turn all the stupid limiters off, you've already maxed out the temperature target so thats a start, make sure to prioritize it also. You'll want to max out voltage (its capped in the BIOS so no worry of damage) and power limit, then see how far you can go.

Yep, that seemed to be the problem. Don't want to be too aggressive though. Without changing voltages and tweaking the fan profile a little bit I got to 1125/6600 MHZ OC. Card stays cool on games and fan noise is acceptable. Will try to increase the clocks again when I need it in the future
