I recently purchased a new video card when I brought my computer in for repairs, so the folks at the store installed it for me. So I set it all up to play some demanding games like Metro: Last Light and I find that in the benchmark, the card is performing slightly worse than a regular 780, and not even close to a 780 Ti. I wasn't expecting results exactly like the review benchmarks, but the card is doing so poorly that I have to think that something is wrong.

Now I am relatively new to all this, so I don't know what the problem is. If maybe my CPU is bottlenecking my GPU, or something is loose or if I just happened to have bad luck and got a cruddy video card.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570 3.40GHz
16 GB ram
PSU: Thermaltake Smart 650W

Solution
If you are playing Metro Last Light on max with 4x ssaa then your frame right isn't that bad - Enabling adaptive vsync might improve your minimum fps for Metro LL.

@ caj

I am gaming at 1920 x 1080

@ Varundbest

My computer was freezing a lot and was all around glitchy. It wasn't a hardware problem, in fact, they said there was nothing wrong with it to my surprise. Here's hoping it doesn't come back.

freezing is either ur cpu is overheating, faulty psu or even faulty ram modules. check those out. at that resolution.. you shouldnt be facing any problems . remeber every cpu & rig, mobo will give you diff results. computers have alot of diff configs so toms review is know to vary based on the hardware

Well, in games like Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, every few seconds the frame drops from a solid 45-50 to around 25-30 for a brief moment, which is jarring as all hell. But that may be due to Ubisoft being incompetent

As for Metro Last Light, I'd say no. I have tried playing other games and the benchmarks I see in the reviews don't come close to the benchmarks I am getting. I'm probably just being neurotic as per usual.

Your hardware can't be bottleneck, maybe it's virus? If possible format everything and install latest drivers. Your rig should match benchmarks your cpu can't be the bottleneck for games at least...

Best bet is to take it back to them, they will be able to run some tests on components and know the problem. Else try to run stress tests on components and monitor temps, check for errors and crashes, etc.

I figured it out. When I chose global settings for the Nvidia control panel, I turned off Vsync. The games didn't like that apparently. So I just put it on "application settings" and disabled vsync in-game and the frame rate was fine. A pretty stupid conundrum I faced, but now my frame rates are up to par. Thanks to everybody for trying to help me out.
