gtx 780 vs. 780 ti

i was just wondering would it be possible to overclock a GTX 780 and get the same performance you would get in a 780 Ti?

Not really you can come close but the Ti is going to be better without the risk of burning out your card.

it seems like the answer is yes...... sorta. you can overclock a 780 that has a non reference cooler to be close or match the 780ti at stock reference speeds.

Isnt a 780 Ti just an overclocked version of a 780? Or is their more to it? I ask because the price difference between the two is crazy to me.

it has all the cores fully unlocked, it's closer to a titan.

Thanks for the help guys. If it wasnt for the price hike on the R9 290x, i wouldnt have even thought of going this route. Damn litecoiners!!

yeah true, though the new gtx cards are amazing and a compelling value now,

the 780ti has the full gk110 2880 cores available and running. the titan has 2688 cores running. the 780 has 2304 cores running.

the titan has different instruction sets available that the 780s dont.

a 780 can very easily be soft modded for some voltage tweaking and llc conditioning and get into the 1.4ghz+ range and will be noticeably faster than a stock 780ti. obviously the same can be done to a 780ti and it will beat the pants off of a 780. there are many links on how to unlock and fully tinker with a gk110. the best 780 to get is the evga classified, then the msi lightning and then the galaxy hall of fame.
