GTX 780 vs CrossFire R9 290 for 3DS MAX viewport?

Can someone advise if i should get a crossfire of 2 Sapphire R9 290 or one GTX 780? Main goal is faster viewport rendering in 3D Studio MAX 14.

Right now i have one Sapphire R9 290 (pushing a 4k screen, so i definitely need something stronger), therefore it would be easier to just add one more 290 than to get 780 and sell this one, and according to gaming benchmarks it beats 780, BUT how well do you think that crossfire would work in MAX? Its so hard to find that data.

Finnancialy, 2x290 are actually even slightly cheaper than 780.
(psu is 1000w so i hope it wouldnt be an issue either way)

i would have to do some more research but this may be a nvidia goto with the vray thing and it likeing the cuda cores. maybe a gtx 580

i would personnally do some searches for "3D Studio MAX benchmark" and see what comes up. i can do the reading buit this is out of scope for me.

thanks for the links, i examined them but almost noone is talking or benchmarking Radeons, especially crossfires and especially new ones... they seem pretty powerful, but they are obviously being avoided in 3ds max world.. i dont know if its justified or is it just because of their bad reputation from the past :\

the thing is that nvidia supports some software acceleration and AMD supports other software. they do not always overlap for software support. my guess is that if a bunch professionals are using a certain manufacturer that is because it just works better with that manufacturer.

this is the best of what i can find right now. it would take quite a bit more reading and searching and I still highly rec that you go to forum that has users who specialize in this field
