I've got 2 780s in SLI, and I'm wondering if i should upgrade to a 1070 or a 1080 for gaming 1440p on a gsync monitor, or is the performance increase really worth the cost to upgrade from SLI 780s to a single 1070 or 1080?

Solution
I'd say get the monitor first since you will buy it anyways and try playing with the 780s. if you are really unsatisfied with the experience then get the 1070.
no need to spend your money right away if you haven't tried your cards yet.

yeah it should be very noticeable on the GTX 1070 and better. @1440P if you use heavy filtering (especially if set very high manually in control panel) a GTX 1080 may be worth it. If not (ie only use in-game settings) a GTX 1070 would be a very good choice.

the 780s in sli are limited as its a sli setup and the vram not raw power as its nearly as powerful as a 1070 but is in sli over a single card
a 1070 is a upgrade if you need smoother gameplay but a 1080 is what you need for a greater than 10% performance increase
also what is your whole pc?

I went from a 780 TI to a 1070. Gained a good 40% FPS. For me it was either a toss up of either SLI 780ti or a 1080. I ended up with a single 1070 for 1440P. Runs great max settings in the all the games and still maintained above 60fps.

That being said Used 780 Tis are worthless now that the 1060 is out. Good thing I sold mine before they came out because now you can get a 780TI for under $150.
