Gtx 780ti backplate

So I boutght the gtx titan backplate for gtx 780ti, which is supposed to work. However, I removed the thermal pad, according to EVGA's manual, but now Im not so sure, if removing the thermal pad on the backplate is going to harm anything?

The thermal pads on the backplate are for the Titan only, not the 780ti. I imagine it wouldn't hurt anything to leave them on but they aren't needed.

So you basically saying without any thermal pad or anything(all removed), the backplate will function correctly, without shortcircuiting anything right?

Titan has memory chips on the back of the PCB, the 780's do not, so they aren't needed.

The backplate when used on the 780ti does not provide any cooling. It is there purely to look nice and provide support for the card. On the Titan, it actually provides cooling for the card and hence the need for the thermal pads.
