I sold both of my gtx 780ti's before I left for a 3 month deployment but now I'm back and in need of a gaming pc. I can wait a couple of months but so close to pulling the trigger on a r9 295x2 and a new 4k monitor. So, do you guys think green team will release by June or should I go ahead pull the trigger??

Solution

I have both a 144hz monitor and a 1440p monitor.. can't really compare them. The higher resolution and better colors ( depending on the model ) kinda crush the faster panel. He has a 1440p monitor i doubt he would be willing to downgrade.

But I do agree with 4k.. wait another year and see what happens.

Depends on what games you play.. I play BF4 and every other game i play is an MMO, the better colors from my IPS panel combined with the higher resolution make the gaming...

And you call my answer answer 'completely unreliable' without posting any links to support your claim.

According to this, the launch is rumored to happen in July, and this was written April 10, 2014.

Here's a more recent and more reliable article saying the opposite.

2015 is pretty close to December 2014, in case you hadn't noticed. And there have been a few stories saying late 2014/early 2015.

You're welcome to look at those or some of the other 21.5 million google hits on maxwell 2015.

OK, thank you for clearing this up. Just how hard can it be for Nvidia to set a date for the release? I mean, it could as well be the June of 2015 if the dates keep getting postponed at this rate...

Yeah, I build them all the time in my garage: http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130226152343/dontstarve/pl/images/9/96/Problem--source.jpg

But seriously, Nvidia is a multi-million dollar company. You'd think they could afford to hire someone smart enough to calculate the approx release date of their products. Yes, I do understand there are some complications in developing new tech, but it's odd how the approximate release date can change by several months within a couple of weeks.

"Just how hard can it be for Nvidia to set a date for the release?" -me

This is exactly what I was wondering. Why can't they just set a date or a month? There's no reason not to tell us.

Nvidia released the GTX780 May 23rd and AMD released the R9 series in late October. It may seem like they have in the past. However, I doubt that's the case now and in the future.

I think you should hold off on 4K for a while longer. Even with a 295x2 the fps aren't the greatest. I think 1080p @ 144hz is better than playing on 4K at sub-par fps (unless you turn down some of the graphics, but that sort of defeats the point of 4K).

You could at least go 2560x1440.

Depends on what games you play.. I play BF4 and every other game i play is an MMO, the better colors from my IPS panel combined with the higher resolution make the gaming experience more enjoyable. I rarely use my 144hz monitor for gaming.. It honestly feels like a step back for me.

880 will be 28nm. 980 will be 20nm.
