As the title says, I have the option to buy:

  • ■Brand new RX 460 2GB from Asus - 93€

    Or
    ■ Used GTX 950 2GB from Asus - 75€
The used one is in great condition as I know the user of it and its history.

The question is, should I go for the RX 460 or pay a little less for the older GTX 950? Thank you!

Solution
Here's the thing about the comparison: The 950 is the faster card, no doubt about that. However(there's always a however isn't there?), the 950 is still going to struggle just as much in certain demanding games.

A 15% difference, for example, sounds like it would be a lot. But it's the difference between 30fps and 34fps. So in games where both the 460 and 950 do well, the 950 will be noticeably better. In games where the 460 needs you to reduce settings to help framerate, the 950 will not do great on either.

Really, is the GTX 950 THAT fast in comparision? That's odd, I saw some benchmarks where they were pretty close :??:

As for the 1050, the cheapeast is 120€, those 30 bucks are a bit too much as of now, unfortunely :p

No it's not that much faster. He got 15% from userbenchmark and people seriously need to stay away from there. In the real world, techpowerup shows on the rx 460 wins but it's a small amount. https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1050_Gaming_X/27.html In every newer game using dx 12 and vulkan, the 460 wins. In older dx 11, the 950 wins so as far as future games, you'd want the 460. But then price complicates things and as far as value goes, the 950 being 20€ less makes it a better deal as they are so close.

Allright, I get what you're trying to say, you made a farily solid point! Just one last question, given the RX 460 being recent, wouldn't it be a little more future proof (DX12)? My last reason to consider :p

Yeah, DX12 is the breaking point here I guess. Which would you take?

Quite wrong overall to be honest as Nvidia released a patch 1 or 2 months ago that boosts DX12 performance for Nvidia cards by 15%. That graph is pretty outdated.

The 950 performs atleast as good as the 1050, so something doesn't seem right with that graph.

The increase does not put it 15% ahead. Amd is still showing the advantage in dx12 titles. Of the games benchmarked only 5 of the 18 were dx12 or vulkan. There was no performance improvement in dx11 and the 460 still wins in some dx11 titles. Even if you give it a 20% increase in all dx12 games, they are about on par and not a 15% difference.

I did mention the 950 is a better value because of the price.
