The problem you are going to have is you have a super old system that doesn't support modern hardware due to the ancient BIOS board you have. We moved from BIOS to UEFI, and GPUs now expect to see that. Random link I pulled from the web.

In that thread they talked about buying a 6 series card. To be honest I'm not sure what the newest card you can run is. But I wouldn't try either of those cards.

I used to have a Q9550 and I upgraded to a R9 380X with no problems at all. In fact, after upgrading the CPU to an i7 6700k I did not notice a dramatic increase in FPS. To be completely honest, the CPU was slightly overclocked, if I remember correctly, to 3100 MHz. That would put it in line with the Q9650. Not sure about Nvidia, but no problems so far with AMD. In fact, if you search the userbenchmark database for that specific build (Q9650+1050Ti) it shows about 130 results. Not sure if link will work, but just in case: http://www.userbenchmark.com/PCBuilder/Custom/S0-M1706.188434vsS3883-M1706.8195.1261.89192?tab=GPU

So, I'd go for the 1050Ti, but in a store that gave me an early return option just in case.
