GTX 960 Fan doesnt turn without PrecisionX

Hi all,

I've just put together a new system

Gigabyte Z97X
Recent Intel Chip
Corsair h80i
ASUS GTX980
Samsung EVO SSD
Windows 8.1

Nothing particularly out of the ordinary. Everything worked as planned, apart from the H80 not being reconised which was a quick Regedit job.

The real issue is the fans on the GTX980 aren't turning.

I read alot of posts about them not getting power from PCI etc, but if I use EVGA PrecisionX they work fine.

Latest Drivers etc,

Any ideas appreciated.

The fans on that card only start to spin when the card is under a decent load. At idle it will just cool passively, go into a game and they should spin up.

Yes they do. Its one of the selling points for the asus 980, maybe before you buy hardware you should read about it. This feature is definitely advertised in Asus' marketing materials and on the product page on their website.

@rolli59 thanks for the edit, and solution. Just what I wanted to hear.

Sadly I now have to ignore Corsair links flashing 0rmp warning lights on a permanent basis. Small price to pay though
