I have the GTX 760, so one generation difference and I play at 1080p with mixed high/ultra settings on games such as BF4, Arma 2 and 3 and Witcher 2 and I get decent framerates. At those resolutions the 960 is not a bad choice of a GPU but I think the R9 280x would be a slightly better option if you have not purchased the card already.
