Hello guys, should I buy Gigabyte GTX 960 4 GB 1G GAMING or MSI R9 280x 3GB.. I am doing 1080p gaming.
I wanted to mix one of these cards with FX-6300.

I can't decide which GPU is better for me. I want to play GTA V, Far Cry 3/4 Battlefield 3/4 in high/ultra settings with good FPS and with no lag.

In my country both of these cards are pretty much the same price.
Can you tell me which card is better for me to buy and which card would bring the best performance?

Solution
Well the 960 may consume less power but that doesn't make a difference in power bill so no worry. The performance between the two is there, R9 280x is much more powerful will get more FPS is majority of games. And the 960 is without a doubt a rip off at its current price, it is good for 1080p but the price point is has should be lower. The R9 280x can be found around 960's price and yet its a better card. So do yourself a favour and buy a card that is more worth it(R9 280x) or go with the 960 and be suckered for your money which could have been used for something more worthy (R9 280x). :)

In general 280X was faster. Some said 960 was overpriced but personally i think at $200 it was a decent card at that price. They just look overpriced because AMD cut their price. I'm sure AMD did nit like the fact have to sell cards like 290X below 300 and 280X around 200 (and below). Also i see something interesting happen with GTA 5. In HardOCP test cards like 960 and 285 was able to beat 280X quite significantly. The only advantage of 280X was extra VRAM but in GTA V that extra VRAM did not give 280X advantage.

I see your point but don't lead him/her to get 960 when a more powerful gpu(280x) or a card around 960's level(r9 285) is cheaper. I still think 280x is still better than 960.
