My GPU is gtx 960
Motherboard is Maximus VIII hero
Ram is DDR4
750 watt gold power supply

Hey guys, I was wondering if I would be able to upgrade to a 1080 ti from my 960. I am not sure if DDR4 ram can work with the 1080 Ti . I built my PC around a year ago but I am still pretty new to this. I just want to make sure that everything will be compatible.I understand this might be a really stupid question but any information would help.

Well if your intentions are to achieve high-refresh-rate-wild-frame-rate-gaming, then you'll be fine.

DDR4 is the newest RAM available, so yes it will work. But when upgrading to a GPU as powerful as the 1080 TI, you want to ask yourself a few questions.

Is you CPU strong enough to keep up with it?
What resolution will you be gaming on? Because 1080p is complete overkill for the 1080 TI. It is more suited for 1440p gaming.

I have a i7 6700k CPU and a 144hz monitor does this work? or still overkill? I believe I am at 1440p but overkill might be okay. This PCs main use is gaming

Yes. M8h supports 1080ti, and you are running 750w psu, so that’s no issue,

You would need a 6700k or 7700k oc it beyond 4.0 ghz or higher to fully unlock its potential in game. I have a 6600k oc to 4.5 and sometime I feel the cpu is lacking a bit, wish to have the extra threads from hyperthreading. I also game on 1080p

Ideally, any 4th Gen i7 or higher will be enough to unlock its potential.

i7 4770k or greater.

Keep in mind even 4th Gen i7 will out perform any 6th gen i5 you throw at it.

Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback. It's definitely a GPU I'll be looking to pick up.

Thanks, so an i7 6700k would be perfect? That is my current CPU
