I'm planning to get a Gtx 960 but I came across a good deal w/ a brandnew Gtx 760 which is $40 bucks cheaper... just want to ask, which is better for 1080p gaming, the newer gtx 960 which has 2gb vram or the older gtx 760 with higher 4gb vram... thank you...

2gb isn't enough for 1080p!

AC:U needs 4gb for 1080p max textures
Shadow of mordor needs 3gb
Thief on ultra needs 3gb
other games like Dragon Age:I with AA need more than 2gb for 1080p

Right now my friend is upgrading his card for the sole fact that he needs more vram...
Welcome to 2015

Check your facts. You're getting RAM and HDD space confused with VRAM.

2GB is enough for 1080p. Games don't use VRAM, they utilize it. A game will sort its memory allocation depending on the amount of VRAM it detects.

Systemreqlab :)) really?

So the freezes i get with AC:U on very high textures @1080p FXAA with my 3gb card are just my imagination? What about the fact they are completely gone if i lower textures to high? Even on nvidia website they say you need 4gb vram for ultra textures. I also find it funny you saying 2gb is enough while running a 4gb 970...

The OP was talking about 960 2gb vs 760 with 4gb (and cheaper) -> the 4gb card is a no brainer in this case.

Oh and just to clear things up for Shadow of mordor

http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/matthew-wilson/shadow-of-mordor-pc-testing-1080p-1440p-4k/

"We observed the game using between 3017MB and 3030MB of VRAM during our benchmark test so it is very close to capping out. Unfortunately, we don’t have a 4GB or 6GB GPU on hand to compare usage results but it looks like gamers will want at least a 4GB card for future proofing. That said, we didn’t notice any negative performance impact while using Ultra textures."

I guess this is why a lot people don't bother helping on forums...

Its clear to me you got the memory allocation thing all wrong so i'd suggest you go read some articles about vram usage in modern games. While in the past resolution had the most impact on vram, right now textures are scaled for 8gb consoles and have the biggest impact. I would even link you some articles but it seems to me like you already think you got it right so there's no point me wasting time with links.

To the OP: Get the 4gb version, you'll thank me later.

this is single 960 vs single 760. not 960 vs 760 in SLI. that 7604GB probably better if they were in SLI config. but in single GPU config that 760 won't be able to use all that VRAM. it will running out of grunt before the extra VRAM really can be a benefit in games.

Im aware of the R9 280x being a better option... but my PSU may not last longer cause it's power hungry... that's why I go with the NVIDIA cards....

If you overclock the R9 280 you will have nearly a simmilar performance as th eR9 280X

i dont like to gamble on r9 280/280x..correct me if im wrong... my corsair vs550 might be enough... but it's too close.... if i would upgrade my PSU... I think it would be better if I would put the money for a better GPU... :)
