Just curious if anyone had heard anything regarding the 960m, or if there would even be one.

I'm about to need to buy a laptop for work, and the $1000 price point is about where I'm at, making the 970m/870m a bit out there, and figured if a 960m was incoming I was hoping it would get the same huge performance jump from the 8xx and be a good deal. But, if there won't be a 960m might as well just get one with the 860m.

Anyway, just curious (or impatient, I guess!)

Given the normal GPU shader count differences between the x60M and x70M I wouldn't worry about the 960M to much as the 860M is already a Maxwell part. Although it is possible the 860M could end up being a 950M part they seeming like to have large core count differences at least somewhere in their Mobile GPU lineup. (860M 640 shaders -> 870M 1344shaders, 770M 960shaders -> 780M 1536shaders, 675M 384shaders -> 675MX 960shaders. Although the 775M did come out later with 1344shaders it is still a bit of a jump)

As I already said the 860M is a Maxwell chip. So you would be getting one regardless. There has always been stupid large jumps in performance from chips like the 860M and 870M from both sides. But given there has been no leaked specs for the 960M I doubt we will see that chip in an actual product between now and 2015.
