GTX 970>1070 upgrade, is it too early?

Hello all. I am current a GTX-970 user. Playing in 2560-1080 on ultra/high in most games with occasional FPS drops below 60 on some maps (large operations with full server usually).  Anyone in my situation and bebating whether to sell GTX970 while still can get 200+ for used card and upgrade to 1070GTX? I have seen some GTX1070's already dip below the 400$ the week before black friday, and wondering if the prices will continue going down. I know People recommend GTX970 for 1080 gaming, but since i have ultra wide resolution, and there is potential to increase details and FOV, a gtx1070 would be potentially beneficial.
System specs: Windows 10 (64-bit pro), 16GB ram, 500gb SSD, 6700K (4.4 Ghz OC). Thanks!

I think everybody is dropping below 60fps sometimes in 64man operations games, even with more powerful hardware. I think thats down to poor cpu optimization, does your i7 have high cpu usage in bf1?

I usually recommend people skip a generation, so wait for the 1170 or whatever they call it. But if you can sell that 970 for a good price I wouldn't be opposed pascel has brought a good jump in performance, however in that case I would really recommend you save up for a 1080 if you want to see a large meaningful upgrade. With a 1080 you would likely be able to max out all games well over 60fps with your monitor.

Good morning. Thank you for the reply. I actually have done something incredibly stupid. While building my PC I did not realize I did not insert my RAM sticks properly preventing them from working in dual channel mode (Z170G45 MSI mobo is not color-coated). Relocating my DDR4 RAM into #1 and #3 positions, had provided my with >59.9 FPS at all times (locked in BF) while playing on 2560x1080 resolution. Additionally I was able to increase my settings from high to ultra, and expand my FOV from 55% to 85% (I prefer not to play at higher FOV as it makes my dizzy for some reason).

I have immediately taken off my GTX970 off ebay and amazon listings, as I was desperately trying to sell it for 140$, but realize that this card will last in more at least a year for current games.

PS I was a little disappointed by the lack of good deals this black friday/cyber monday and for that reason tried switching my RAM slots, as I wasn't ready to pay nearly 400$ (while on sale) for a 1070 that has suggested MSRP below that. I am kinda happy it worked out this way.

Yeah I would not sell a 970 for $140 US, thats really cheap. And note FOV in BF1 is weird I think 85% is like what would normally be called 120 FOV in most games, which will give you the fish eye effect on most monitors and that may make you dizzy. The number next to the percentage is the FOV, I set mine to around 65% which is around +90 FOV, I think without looking at it. Again refer to the number next to the percentage for the FOV how we're are used seeing it in most options menus.

Yeah read your mobo manual next time before starting to build lol, I'm sure it states that. Most mobo's actually recommend slots 2 and 4 for dual channel mine does, though I doubt it makes a difference from slots 1 and 3.

I'd say wait for the next new thing (GTX1170/80???) I'm running dual GTX 970's and the only real issue I run into is lack of ram. The only time notice any actually performance hits are when I run above 1080P on 3 displays, turn the settings up to the absolute max, run a game that has poor SLI utilization or run a particularly hardware heavy game (the recent assassins creed games give them a good work out).

For me, I don't plan to upgrade until my dual 970's can't keep up with a single base reference card (that doesn't cost a freaking fortune).

Hey guys, I'm looking at purchasing a 1070 SC as an upgrade from a 970 and I game at 1200p. Is that extra horsepower from the 1070 going to be of benefit to me sooner than I think? I'm taking the opportunity to upgrade as my 970 needs RMA.

Pascal looks to be a significant performance increase, would the same increase be likely with the next series, 11 series if that's what it will be?
