gtx 970 2x8 pin cable problem

Hello, I'm planning to buy an overclocked Gigabyte GTX 970, that has 2x 8 pin pci-e power slots. My PSU is a LC1000 Legion X2, that has 2x free 8 red PCI-E connectors. I already have one 8 pin pci-e connector and one 6+2 pin pci-e connector that comes from PSU (actually they're used by the old gpu that I want to replace.).

My question is, if I power one of the GTX 970 8 pins from my 6+2 pin pci-e cable, what about the remaining 8 pin slot? Do I need to buy a 8 pin pci-e extension cable like the one from BitFenix?

Other way you could go is buy something like ASUS GTX 970 TURBO OC 4GB edition which only requires 1 8pin PCI-e power slot.

Or the stock gigabyte gtx 970, that has one 6 pin and one 6+2 pin connector. However, my question was different.

Yes you need to fill all the power slots, I googled your PSU and it has a second 8pin PCI-e slot so if you buy the cable you should be golden
