Predicting the future is always a hard thing, especially in pc gaming for 3 years from now.

If you are ok with playstation 4 gmes quality and fps, then why don't you just get one? Its simpler and more focused on gaming. Theoretically a pc with similiar quality settings (different on each game) should be ok with GTX 950 or probably even GTX 750 Ti. That should not change in 3 years, not in 5 years, as the PS4 hardware will not change too. So a GTX 970 will be more than enough. Theoretically.

So, why do I say theoretically? Because it is. 😀
There is more than hardware equivalents. Games can be more optimzed to a console, because the hardware and software on it is exactly the same for all (those parts relevant for performance). The...
medium until 2019? probably. ultra? definitely no. so PC vs console....never own console (except my old PSP haha) and personally i prefer to play on PC if possible so i'm biased towards PC gaming. to me the only appeal for console were their exclusive titles. if you really want to play those game like it or not you will have to buy console. i like PC because it's flexibility. take this one example: game too demanding? you just have to lower the setting yourself. in console you were stuck to which ever setting developer decided to use. if they end up too demanding (even happen to current gen console) then you need to wait developer to release patch 'to fix' the performance. 'to fix' as in actual meaning lowering the graphical effect so the performance are much more stable and faster. what could be done in minutes in PC might end up waiting in few weeks for console. and in the past they usually said PC is much more hassle to deal with with those driver updates and game patch where on console you can just plug and play. well the driver part might be true still to some extend but current gen console are no longer plug and play (and forget the rest) like it was before. all thanks to our much more advance internet today 😀 .

There is more than hardware equivalents. Games can be more optimzed to a console, because the hardware and software on it is exactly the same for all (those parts relevant for performance). The hardware structure and programming it is different from pc, involving cpu, ram and gpu. Cpu have 8 threads (if I am correct) and the 8gb ddr5 ram is used as vram too. So, games cant just converted and need a little programming for pc hardware, which works differently. Look at example to Black Ops 3, which have (still?) problems on i5 processor. You see, a graphics card alone doesnt make all.

From this, I would say you would be good with an i7 processor (or at least Xeon like me), at least 8gb ram and a graphics card like GTX 950 or better. This setup should be enough to take any ps4 game converted to pc at ps4 like performance or better. That means quality settings like medium or low and 40 fps at 1080p. That is a huge simpledied guess. Take the GTX 970 and you most probably can play most games at medium to high quality settings at 1080p with at least 60 fps. Even 3 years from now. Maybe not.

Hope this helps.

Like I said, it depends on te programmer. The ps4 works differently and if the programmer is not careful, then the lacking vram and cpu threads could be a problem. And games gäcan be optimized to ps4, as the hardware is exactly known. Otherwise you are right, from horsepower side the ps4 is old, slow and crappy.
