GTX 970 and PCI-E 2.0 x16

Hello,
Guys, I just discovered that my Asus Maximus IV Extreme mobo only has PCI-E 2.0 lanes but they are x16. I upgraded my GPU to a EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 without knowing this. The bandwith of this port is 64Gbit/s (8Gbyte/s). I was wondering if this is hindering my gpu's performance and if it is, how badly?
I will really feel stupid if it does because I didn't even think of that: I once saw an article on Asus's site that said PCI-E lanes are red and mine are, but they're PCI-E 2.0 ones...
Please tell me if the gpu is Bottlenecked by the mobo but I see it heating a lot so this must mean it's working hard and isn't slowed down by the 2.0 port right? I don't know... help!

Hello... Your in the same Situation as everyone else... Intel is just getting out PCIe3 stuff out this Year 2015... PCIe3 is a direct connection to the CPU... Current Intel Chipsets/MB's don't have it... CPU's do.

No - your card will run flat out and get nowhere near the limit of the pcie2.0x16 pcie slot. Same with pcie2.0x8.

No - LGA1155 and FM2+ mobos support pcie3.0.

But as I said pcie2.0 is more than enough anyway.

I have LGA 1155. 😵. OK so I don't understand anything now and am really confused but thanks anyway: now that I know I'm getting all of the GPU's power.
