GTX 970 as good as GTX 780ti

I found a 780ti for $450. The 970 I am looking at is $350. I have been researching and everything is saying that the 970 is on par with the 780ti. I find that hard to believe. I also found though that the newly released 960 is supposed to be on par with my current card the 680. Which I also find very hard to believe. Looking at the number of cuda cores, the Texture Fill Rate and the price of each card when it was released I would think the 780ti would be the best. Please let me know which you think is the best and why. Which would you purchase and why? Thank you in advance.

Technically the 780ti is a hair faster, but the 970 has more video ram and cost less.
The 970 is the best bang for your buck by far. Unless you are getting a 780ti for under 300 dollars.

The 970 is better than the 780 but not the 780ti. It might be very close in most games in 1080p but at current prices, the 970 is easily the better bang for your buck. Not only that, it supports many new "eye candy" features including full DX12 support, if it turns out that means anything. And the 3.5 GB vs 3 GB does help as well with higher resolutions. The 780ti will probably beat it in compute applications and double-precision floating point applications if that is what you need then it is more like a "baby" Titan than the 970 is and the more parallel threads would make it the better card, if you are building a non-gaming rig that is.
