Gtx 970 Causing crashes?

Hi i just bought a pny gtx 970 and since then ive been experiencing kernel driver crashes to blank screen and often they are so bad that i need to restart my pc. the crashes happen completely randomly and often while i'm not playing games. any ideas is this driver problem or do i rma the card? i've tried reinstalling windows and different drivers, i'm currently using 347.09 (the older ones kept crashing even more)
my old asus gtx 660 had no problems so its most likely problem with the 970
(sorry for bad english it's not my native language)

specs:
cpu: i5 3550
gpu pny gtx 970
ram: some kingston 8 gb
mobo: asus p8z77-v lx v2
ssd: samsung evo 840
psu: chieftec cft-600-14cs 600w
os: windows 7 home premium sp1 64bit

Solution
The problem is most likely your cheiftec power supply. Many power supplies can't deliver the power the promise. The GTX 660 doesn't pull as much power as the GTX 970. The extra power pull is what pushed your GPU over the edge. That's my theory anyway. Replace the PSU with a quality one from corsair, seasonic, cooler master or Antec. any 550 watt or better PSU from these guys should do the trick.

Do the problems go away when you reinstall the old GPU? If the parts work with the old gpu then you can rule them out as problems. That leaves only the power supply and the GTX 970. Do you have access to another PC which you can install and test the GTX 970? Do you have another power supply to swap out in your current system?

Well i could ask my friend to borrow his psu but that won't be until next week because he lives so far 🙁
and yea i doubt that the problem is not enough power because i ran furmark for 30 min without any problems.
but the gtx 970 does require second pci-e power cable compared to the gtx 660s one...
