I realise this may be quite an old issue from searching online, but:
I recently changed my monitor to a Dell U2722DE which supports DisplayPort 1.4 and have connected it to my (admittedly pretty old) ASUS STRIX GTX 970 Direct CU II using a DisplayPort 1.4 cable (I was previously using a much older Dell monitor). I have noticed that when starting up the computer and after the initial splash screen, I only get a black screen (with mouse pointer) and can only proceed past this to log into Windows (10) if I press the power button to sleep and then wake the computer again, at which point the login screen appears.
I have found I can stop this from happening by disabling fast start-up and Link State Power Management, but since I'm still using an HDD I would prefer to enable fast start-up if possible.
Searching online, it seems there is an old known issue with some NVIDIA cards and DisplayPort which drivers, a BIOS update or a firmware update may fix.
I have the latest drivers from GeForce Experience.
GPU Tweak II reports my card's BIOS version as 84.04.1F.00.2B. There is a BIOS update for STRIX-GTX970 from 2016 available on the ASUS website to "Fix DP display issue with certain monitors" but it is a single executable file and there doesn't seem to be any detail about version numbers, etc. I haven't run this.
There is also an NVIDIA firmware update from this year for the 900 series (and others) for when "you are currently experiencing a blank screen or hang on boot with a DP 1.3 or 1.4 monitor". When I run this it suggests an update is required, but I haven't proceeded with this yet.
My question is do I need to perform both the BIOS update from ASUS and the firmware update from NVIDIA or would one or the other be sufficient on its own? Would I be better just leaving the power settings as they are and doing nothing further? I'm hoping someone who has been through this might have some advice!
