Hi guys,

I have a GTX 970 as GPU for my actual PC and I have decided to upgrade my GPU towards GTX 1080. I would like to know a fair price for GTX 970, because I was thinking somewhere between 200-250E for it. It's a fair price?
Also, one more question: Would my 4790k bottleneck with a GTX 1080?

I would like to know your opinions. It would help me a lot. 😀
Thanks!

Wish you all only the best.

To answer your second question first, the Haswell/Devil's Canyon i7 4790K will not bottleneck a GTX 1080. Regarding your price for the GTX 970, it depends on where you are. In the US thanks to the cryptocurrency mining craze, 970s on eBay are selling for $225USD plus.

I will be listing my two SLI 970s as soon as my GTX 1080Ti arrives. It's a sellers market big time in America. Last month GTX 970s were selling for $150USD on eBay. They way I see it, if I can get $500 for my two 970s, my GTX 1080ti upgrade will have only cost me $250.

So again, it really depends on where you are and how hot the market is. I'm taking full advantage of the suckers snapping up mid-tier GPUs thinking they are going to make money mining Ethereum.

Thanks for sharing that, 10tacle. Honestly, I'm aiming for 250 euros for my GTX 970, but I would sell it for 225 euros as well if I don't have a choice. I think I will set it for 200E and as a bid. Maybe someone will take it.

250 Euros is 285 US dollars if it sells then you are lucky.

^^Again, it depends on the market conditions. As I understand it, cryptomining or at least trading in that currency is illegal in most EU nations, so there's not nearly the demand for GPUs there - new or used - than there is in the United States. A lot of people are ticked off at the cryptominer greed hogging all the GPUs who really need a new GPU for a new build.

However, for those of us with a previous generation GPU who were debating selling and upgrading now or waiting for the next generation of GPUs next year (Nvidia Volta, AMD Vega), this GPU demand made it a no-brainer. The best part is that the high end Nvidia GPU prices (1080 & 1080Ti) are not affected. At least not right now. But that can change at any time which is another reason I'm making the move now.
