So I come here because I believe I may have damaged my DisplayPort output on my GPU, or that the actual cable has been shorted out. I'm not sure as I'm not willing to risk trying to use the cable again after the GPU or cable has failed to deliver any output via DP to my monitor after 3 restars, which is an AOC Q2963pm (which may be of relevance to you just in case it's the monitor's fault.)
Now seeing as the GTX 970 Jetstream has a weird-ass array of video outputs, I couldn't use the HDMI cable I previously used for my older HD 6870, which was perfectly fine. I then decided to purchase a mini Displayport to Displayport cable (20 pin). Now I was thinking, a video output cable is a video output cable, right? Wrong, and apparently, I recently found out that the 900 series use 19-pin, and not 20-pin, which took me a long enough time to find, and now, DP doesn't work, at least not through the current 20-pin cable I have. (I'm guessing it's 20 pin, I just counted the pins 20 on both sides.) Finding a "regular" 20-pin mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable was difficult enough, scrolling through pages and pages of thunderbolt and HDMI adapters, I bought the first one I could see that wasn't expensive. Now I have to find a 19-pin mini-Displayport cable.
Obviously, I had a backup cable to use, and there's a reason why I don't like to use it; It's the DVI output with a DVI-to-analog VGA adapter, and then to the VGA input of my monitor. It's not pretty - it's like permanent bloom and radial blur is burned into my monitor. But at least it confirms my GPU isn't dead.
Without further ado, I guess the main question is this:
I want good, pixel-perfect image quality. Personally, I think DP is the best, but if the cables are going to be rare (and I will appreciate it if you can find me a good quality mini-DP to DP cable that won't break the bank) then I think I would be able to go for mini-HDMI to HDMI, or an actual DVI cable rather than the ramshackle Frankenstein video cable I'm using right now.
Particularly, if you have this specific card, it would be nice to have some input on your video output methods, as well as cables you may have purchased.
Lastly, if you do want to suggest cables, remember that I live in the UK, and that I may have to pay exorbitant shipping fees, so I would advise that you use a UK-based store.
