Hello all,

I have a phenom ii x4 970 paired with 4gb of ram and an ati hd5770.

I can only really afford to upgrade one thing at a time. I understand the CPU is going to (significantly) hold me back, but if I get a gtx 970 would I notice improvements? Would getting another 4gb of ram help?

Thanks in advance for any help!

No matter what game you play, you WILL notice significant performance improvements. The 970 is about 4x-5x faster than a 5770, so even though your CPU will hold back some of that performance, it's still a worthwhile upgrade as it'll only get better if you move up to a faster processor. Also, you'll absolutely want to upgrade to 8GB of system memory.
depends on which phenom 2 you have. if you canoc it and get a decent fps bump then yes the cpu may be holding it back. if you get next to no increase then its unlikley but it will oftren deppend more on the game if its cpu or gpu bound as to whether a bottleneck shows up..
