guys, i know a similar thread has been answered (http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2306841/gtx-970-4670k-power-consumption.html) but i was wondering since i saw on some review using lga 1150 compatible processor and not overclocking (preferably using non k cpu and non z mobo), loaded with unigine heaven the power consumption only tops 265 watt full system. So i am curious if 300 watt is enough (not to mention gold rated, good quality etc etc) since i also saw from one of tom's article (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/cyberpowerpc-syber-vapor-xtreme-steam,27717.html) that using a gtx 980, SYBER use only 450watt and on other configuration (R9-270) if i am not mistaken R9-270 power consumption is similar to gtx 970 and that system only use 250watt.

I wouldn't risk it, personally.

Would it work? Possibly.
If you read the Tom's review they have a nice section on power spikes that seemingly occur with these cards. Such spikes could trip the protections of a decent small power supply.

All in all it's best to run your system using around 50-60% of the available wattage in order to maintain efficiency and longevity.

The 970 doesn't consume all that much, but it's still very borderline, especially if you buy a pre-OC'd version.
I would recommend 400w at a minimum, I believe Nvidia recommends 500w on their own page.

Don't risk it dude, it's not worth it, especially since I expect you'll be doing some intense gaming with such a great card, it will really be pushing the card and drawing a lot of power. 300W wouldn't be able to supply enough, and may result in PSU Coil Whine, which is nasty business. As the other guy said, 400W is the very very minimum, although I suggest 500W just to be same which will also ensure that any future upgrades you make won't suffer. The GTX 970 consumes about 145W I think, but even so, 300W won't cut it. Sorry bro:)

hi if you buy a 500w 80 plus gold you will be fine ive got the same power supply with GTX 970 4GB and it was running just fine i even overclocked it to 1400mhz hope this helped

Which model of GTX 970 do you have?

I have a gtx 970 with a 350 watt psu and with graphics set relatively high (as they should be) in games, the system will rapidly spike, trip, and die. Personally I am going to go with at least the recommended wattage.

Your getting spike and it dies because your PSU is maxing out and with it not being a 80+gold your PSU will fail so I would get a 600w PSU so the psu is not maxing out and it will give you room to overclock the gpu
