Hey guys,

So last christmas (after ages of planning and researching) i got enough money to build a PC capable of running games at 1080p, enjoyable settings (i came from using a 2010 imac with an awful processor, laughable GPU and 4 gigs ram so anything that could run 60 fps would make me happy).

I ended up building this:

GTX 570 Gigabyte Windforce
i5 4460 3.2 ghz
8 gb ddr3 1600 mhz hyperX
VS550W PSU (Corsair)
And an ASUS H81-M PLUS motherboard

Getting it to actually work was hearder than expected and experienced lots of issues and still does to this day. About once every 2-7 days the computer will turn off on its own and not re-boot unless i either played with the 12-pin power connector for an hour or so (sometimes 5 minutes) or just left it for like 4-12 hours. This got very frustrating and instead of posting about it i looked at heaps of similar problems regarding ASUS motherboards, crappy power supplies, overheating and shorting. I know it isn't overheating, i am certain it isn't shorting and i would be very disappointed if it was the PSU or mo-bo because they are brand new.

ANYWAY
I gave up and decided i would eventually replace both PSU and mo-bo with more reliable components and deal with the issue till then.

I still have my old imac and i'm surprised to find that people are actually selling the same model with a smaller hard drive for $800-$1000 AUD! I also have a spare $200 to add to it.

With this i can easily get a really good, reliable PSU and motherboard for like $250 AUD tops, which leaves me with headroom for a better graphics card.

At first i was thinking of treating myself to a gtx 970. After watching heaps and heaps of benchmarks, i was nearly sold but i thought, why not go big and shoot for a gtx 980. I wouldn't have to upgrade for a long time and it would be an unimaginable experience for me considering less than four months ago, i was getting 30 frames on the lowest settings in crappy indie games off of steam.

This would all be settled if i didn't just have my headset die on me and my mouse start playing up.
My headset was a destroyed (one earcup missing) razer kraken pro and my mouse is a 2013 razer deathadder. I might be able to keep using my mouse for a bit longer and i have a temprary crappy turtle beach headset to use in the meantime but i will have to replace them very soon.

I have 2 options:
BUDGET: $1050
Option 1:
GTX 970 $509 AUD
MSI B85 G43 Gaming Motherboard $155 AUD
bequiet 600W PSU $99 AUD
New $130 Headset (TurtleBeach z60)
New $59 AUD Deathadder Mouse (can't let go of this, ranked up from mge to LEM so quick with this mouse)
TOTAL: $952 AUD (Leaves room for better peripherals)

Option 2:
GTX 980 G1 Gigabyte $729
MSI B85 G43 Gaming MO-BO $155
bequiet 600W PSU $99
TOTAL: $983 (room for mouse)

I'm just not sure if i want a better gaming experience with option 2, then maybe sell old hardware for better headset and mouse, or just go with option 1 considering gtx 970 is still have a very good card for 1080p gaming.

Is the 970 good enough for todays newest games to run with really nice graphic settings? or should i just go for the 980 and be able to play cs go again later (not playing with speakers screw that)

I would just appreciate any opinions and thoughts, maybe even a different option entirely considering the budget.
And please don't bother suggesting AMD GPUs as i know they are way better for the money but i'm really rooting for things like shadowplay and NVIDIAs HBAO setting. Try not to hate me for this, i'm not on any side i just feel like NVIDIA might be the more solid option for me.

Solution
the extra cost of a gtx980 compared to a gtx970 just isnt worth it for a small performance gain

save the $220 and get the gtx970 and use that $220 for something else
first i rma the old power supply under warranty. with the new power supply make sure your running the newest bios file on the h81 mb. the h81 mb is a better chipset then the b ones you listed. for gpu i wait now for the newer pascal. less power then older 900 and going to be faster.
