I'm debating between the 970 and the new 1070 (coming out soon). I will probably get the FX-6300, so my question is will the 6300 hold the 1070 back? Will the 1070 never be able to use its whole preformance because the 6300 isn't the best? Or should I just get the 970? I'm building a budget gaming pc (under $700) and other suggested builds are appreciated. Nothing is set in stone yet.

Solution
AM3+ is a dead platform. AMD will be releasing Zen, in October, along with its AM4 platform. An i3 6100 is simply a better gaming CPU, at this time.

I would get this, to start with, then save up for the 1070.

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($194.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B150M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Aegis 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($28.99 @ Newegg)

Case: Deepcool TESSERACT SW RED ATX Mid Tower Case ($47.98 @ Newegg)...
What all do you need for a new build? I would not recommend an fx6300 for a budget build. You can get much better gaming performance out of an Intel i3 with accompanying motherboard for the same price as an fx6300/970 chipset motherboard for the same cost.

Other than price, AMD CPUs simply aren't as competitive with Intel CPUs for gaming right now. You're better off going with an Intel i5. An i5 + a H170 board could be a good, powerful gaming platform on a budget. If you're dead set on getting AMD, then the 8350 would be a decent choice.

If you have the time to wait, then you could wait for the 1070 a couple of months. It would probably be 50% of your budget. If you wait for the 1070 release, you could also go with the 970 then as it will likely be reduced in price to make way for the 1070. The 970 is still a great performer for 1080p gaming.

To put its plane AMD has be left behind due to their old CPU not being able to handle what an i3 could easily do, AMD has really left it late to release new CPU's.

Intel is dominating the CPU market right now, that is until AMD actually release something that can come up against Intel's new Skylake.

Like all teh others have said, stay away from AMD at this point. As for the 1070, it'll work fine on intel skylake, so i wouldn't even debate it.

granted, it's from nvidia, but still, it might end your "debate" :)
