Is it worth the wait to get a 970? They are mostly out of stock and the 780 is about 10 to 30 cheaper in some models. ill only be gaming in 1080p btw.

Solution
personally, what i check is the price/performance ratio, like if you use the 970 as base line. how much faster is the 980 vs the 970, then how much more expensive the 980 is over the 970. if it's, say 15% faster but 30% more expensive then no.
also consider the temperature, noise, etc.

but if money (among others) is not an issue, then by all means, you can also setup sli if you wish.
most of the time, i don't buy the high end, at most i buy the 2nd in rank, mostly third (560Ti, etc)
Well, I personally do my gaming on a 760 and even a small card like it does pretty well - if the substantially higher power draw of the 780 compared to the 970 is something you can work with, then I'd say go ahead and pick one up. They're still an outstanding flagship card... I think you'd be happy with it, especially at 1080p!
