GTX 970 or 980

Hi, I'm building my first high end gaming rig. I have picked all the parts except the GPU and I don't know if I should get the 970 or the 980. I could afford the 980 if I really want it but the 970 is a bit more fitting to my budget. So what do you guys think? My build will support SLI so is that a good option if I want to upgrade in the future?

What resolution monitor are you planning on using? If 1080p the 970 is more than enough, I would only consider the 980 if you are going to be doing higher than 1080p gaming.

I have a 970 , if that's whats in your budget , buy it you won't be disappointed.

SLI it down the road if you want to.

Thank you for the quick responses. I am playing on a 1080p monitor with a potato screen for streams and movies. I guess I'll go for the 970 so thanks for saving my wallet.
