Hey all,

I've already seen some posts with the same question, but I'm still not sure what to do. I want to upgrade my old GPU (6870) to a new one and was looking at the GTX 970. Nvidia has a nice action running now where you get The Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight for free if you buy one. But now I've read that the new GPUs from AMD are coming in June. Now I don't know if I should buy a GTX 970 this month, because the action is ending at the end of May. Or if I should wait for the new AMD GPUs and buy one of those. Is there like anything known or are there any speculations about how much more it will cost and how much better it will perform compared to a GTX 970?

Solution
if you like the witcher 3 and Batman Arkaham Knight go ahead and buy the Gtx 970 if you want better performance and dont mind the games wait till the new cards are out and decide then
I would wait it supposed to be out in June so what is the harm in waiting. Then you can see if it is worth the money or not. If it's a lot better the Nvidia's offering at the same price level Nvidia may release a new model or reduce some prices. You could end up getting something better at a lower price if you wait.

CPU, Power Supply, Screen resolution?

6870 requires two 6-pin connectors, and so does the GTX970, so you should be fine, but it never hurts to check. If you are running 1920x1080 then the GTX970 is more then enough to do 60 FPS at very high to maxxed settings in all but the newest games. If your CPU is a little dated it might not be a good idea to hold out for a faster card. Could have a serious bottleneck.

390X will be in the price range of the GTX980, probably around $500. 390 might be price competitive with the GTX970, time will tell if it is a good choice.

AMD's never settle bundles usually include a few more games. Though the Witcher 3 and Batman are optimized for Nvidia, so if think you will like those Nvidia isn't a bad choice.

Dont know what your Cpu is but as long as it has more than two cores and is above 2 Ghz it wont be a bottleneck. Those are very low specs, so your system would have to be 5 years old or something for that to be the case.
